You Alright Mate? is a men's mental health campaign under the Different Hats brand, built on one simple but powerful idea: three words that can change (and even save) a life.
Male suicide remains one of the leading causes of death for men under 50 in the UK. Too many men suffer in silence, trapped by outdated definitions of success and cultural pressures to "stay strong" or "man up." At Different Hats, we believe success is more than wealth, status, or external validation. It's about balance, authenticity, presence, fulfilment, and meaningful relationships.
You Alright Mate? exists to challenge these narratives and create safe spaces for honest conversations. By encouraging peer-to-peer mental health check-ins, we empower men to open up, support each other, and take early steps toward wellbeing.
Because it's how real conversations start. It's familiar. It's non-threatening. And it's an easy way to check in on someone you care about. These three words carry the potential to break silence, build connection, and spark life-changing conversations.
From digital campaigns like the "Check-In Challenge" to live events, football partnerships, and pub activations, we're bringing mental health conversations into male social spaces.

Apparel, caps, and product packaging carry prompts like "Text a mate. Check-in. Repeat." reinforcing our message in everyday moments.
We collaborate with CSR-driven businesses who share our vision of creating meaningful societal change.
We believe lasting change comes through relatable language, familiar environments, and practical tools. Whether it's a mate sending a text, a check-in at a football match, or a conversation over a drink, these small moments can become lifelines.
Whether you're an individual looking to support a friend, a business seeking meaningful CSR partnerships, or a brand interested in collaboration, You Alright Mate? invites you to be part of the solution.
Together, we can help redefine success, reduce stigma, and save lives, one check-in at a time.
Three words. One question. Could save a life.
The Check-In Challenge is a simple way to create a ripple of real conversations between men. It starts with one message: "You alright mate?"
Launching on Monday 9th June, at the start of Men's Health Week, the Check-In Challenge encourages everyone to make Monday their check-in day. Statistically, Monday is the day with the highest rate of suicides for men. By starting the week with a check-in, we aim to intervene early, spark conversations, and create ongoing support.
1 .Message someone you know: "You alright mate?"
2. They reply with a short video message.
3. They pass the question on to someone else.
4. Share online (optional): tag @youalrightmate? or use #CheckInChallenge.
By keeping it casual, peer-to-peer, and familiar, this challenge helps break the stigma around mental health and encourages honest conversations, before it's too late.
Join the movement. Start the ripple. Make the check-in part of your week.
